Closer View For Context
This is as close as we got to the birds and this is my full 400mm zoom capability. Closer crops are possible sometimes. I'm shooting JPG, not raw, and so there is limited post-processing to be done. WYSIWYG. The skies were like this most of the time. It's a mixed blessing for photography. Overall there isn't as much light as a person could want so as to maximize detail, accentuate contrast, and minimize blurring. But the diffuse lighting reduces harsh shadows. The picture taker (I'm no photographer) is challenged to dink with the settings enough to make use of the ambient light. When I go back, if ever, maybe I'll have a flash extender. That technology would mean several years experience using it before I felt competent. So it goes -- we keep learning until we can't.
