Nice Try but Not The Baltimore Oriole -- Orchaard Oriole instead
#45. Rick and I thought we'd found it at Fort McHenry park but it turned out to be Icterus spurius, the orchard oriole. We came back to look again after keeping our appointment with the Delaware Blue Hen Chicken. Bob Alphin told us about a fine place to go. Once there, a young ranger instructed us further. Still, it was a hard hunt. My final stand, after many tries, was at the base of an isolated tree in fields between dense stands of timber about 1/8th mile away in opposite directions. On about the 4th flyby, the bird finally stopped briefly in view above me. I had pre-planned the shot and it worked OK. The remaining problem is whether this is a Baltimore oriole or an orchard oriole.
