Michigan, I Guess -- American Robin
#7, on a field trip to Mouilee Point from the "Biggest Week in American Birding" festival at Maumee Bay Lodge State Park, Ohio, May 2015. Number 8 for the list and an unexpected bonus state for this trip. People I talk to about my quest often suggest nuances for my achievement -- 1. photograph the bird with proof that it is in the state and 2. take one robin photo and have it stand in for all the states where it is the state bird. On that second one, NO; what's the fun in that? As for proof of state, in most cases it's not going to happen. My trip, my rules.
On this field trip I saw most of the leadership rules broken, a really spectacular example of how not to organize and guide a trip. I won't replay the specifics because it won't help anybody and it would only remind me how bad it was. Fortunately, the birds are always there to soothe jangled nerves.
