South Dakota, Ring-Necked Pheasant
# 23 Two female and one male. In the road trip to Canada for goose hunting, I drove an extra 800 miles (because I forgot to use my planned route of only 400 extra miles) and got three state birds, MT, SD, and ND. I finally decided to "hunt" these birds as a hunter would, not like some driving fool. It's the best way for wary and secretive birds. It was the day before the opening of pheasant hunting season and I got some seriously questioning looks from locals who had been saving this field for themselves. Don't worry, guys, I'm not trespassing and I'm not packing heat.
A woman running the cheap motel in Pierre was nice to me and wanted to know if I'm publishing. Well, not yet but maybe I can contact her when I do. I may have her business card somewhere in my notes, but don't count on it.
